Late Saturday morning, we entered Delia's. There was a strong line with a few people leaving due to the line. I gentleman was on the phone and opened the door, saw the line and immediately turned around and left.
Well, Delia's has been our go to for grinders for decades. A lot of those who stayed in line were locals. In 1999, I lived in Taftville with my 3 young ones. They were 4, 5, and 6 at the time. We ate Delia's our first month back until we could not eat another sandwich.
In 2022, my eldest Wilbur arrived early February from a much warmer climate. He was a student at USD for years and we lived in the southwest.
I guess he didn't remember his time in the freezing cold in 1999. He insisted he could walk from our new place to Delia's. Apparently, it started raining in the freezing cold and his phone got wet and wasn't able to get directions and got lost right near my dad's old shop next to Lou's. Somehow he was able to accept a call and he told me he needed a ride.
He was soaked to the bone, on the side of the road, hugging 2 meatball grinders. I scooped him up and brought him home. One of the grinders was wet. The bread was a little soaked. He bit into it and with a full mouthful of meatballs said,
"still the best meatball grinder I've ever had!" munch munch.
Of course, I ordered 2 meatball grinders.
The line was a little long but it was junior prom and they gave the young man the day off.
Deiia's grinders are always awesome and we got rolls twice now. That bread. Oh that heavenly bread!!!
We moved to Norwich in Aug 2023 and sat that local election out, this will be our first. Having done my research the most obvious conclusion I have so far is that one candidate for Mayor in 2025 has never done anything to make Norwich more affordable during his time serving on the City Council.
Great information, thanks for sharing. Got me to do a little research. Not a ton of info found so far, but did find this from 2018:
Overcast , with a high of 78 and low of 62 degrees. Overcast in the morning, sunny during the afternoon, clear for the evening, mist overnight.
Moved here a couple years back from Massachusetts, and we really like living in Norwich. One of the first things I did when we moved in, I sent my info in to volunteer for the baseball stadium authority. Obviously I never heard back, Norwich abandoned that group years back and let the stadium go into bad shape.
A couple of points...
Yes, it is true that American Rescue Plan funds may very well have been re-allocated for other uses, but they weren't. The objections opposing their reallocation should have been objected to when the City Council was presenting it.
And had I not been in the hospital at the time I would’ve been glad to object it but that’s what happened. Of course, those reallocation should’ve never happened in the first place if we had an ethical committee.
Thanks Marcia! We are onboard with the boycott.
Also will point out that I found these arguments made here in opposition to the boycott to be very unconvincing.
I agree about Norwich not being ADA friendly, just the sidewalks alone are either not wide enough, have a telephone pole in the middle of the sidewalk or better yet have trees hanging over the sidewalk, tall grass and weeds littering the way for individuals.
Agreed. I was working at the elementary schools in Kelly, teaching coding and games and I made this one a couple years ago.
